Add the files to iDentify, select all the ones you want to edit from the list, and click edit. IDentify can then automatically look on The TVDB, The Movie DB. From the file name, a lot of information can be gleaned, such as movie title, show name, season number, episode number, year of release, and IMDB code. Before converting ensure you set up Handbrake preferences to use Identify. Option to automatically process files and quit iDentify when files are addedThis is an excellent little program which works unobtrusively and integrates well with Handbrake, my video convertor of choice, when batch and single converting video formats and brings metadata to my conversionsMy process is simple, I rip DVDs using Ripit, then use Handbrake to convert to my preferred format. Option to mark your files with a green label in Finder after iDentify has finished processing them
Itunes Tag Editor For Tv Shows Series And EpisodeIt had been lacking one significant feature though, and that was to maintain the episode data by DVD sorting, rather than the Aired order (a number of programs are aired in an illogical order). As before, iDentify is, hands-down, the easiest way to add metadata tags to your video files using the various existing internet sources. Fantastic time saver.Occasionally Identify won't find the movie title, usually foreign movies, by opening up the movie using edit and simply copying in the IMDB unique code its sorted and the metadata of the original movie is updated.Overall, well worth the price for ease of use and just for doing its job and doing it well.Due to the recent flurry of updates to iDentify that the developer has made, I decided it was time to update my review. So long as you have labelled the conversion with the right details Identify almost always finds the right detail.I am particularly impressed with TV shows, I label the conversion thus: TV Series title, S1 Ep1 and so on, with S1 meaning season 1 and Ep1 as Episode 1, Identify almost always finds the right show, series and episode. Couldn't be simpler. This works better than MetaX and feels more integrated, as it should, as it is a paid for app and whilst MetaX never really let me down it did come up with strange matches every now and again. It then automatically adds to iTunes. This is especially problematic with TV shows. Unfortunately, iDentify seems to automatically accept the first "hit" it gets when matching a show or movie to TagChimp's database, when there are usually several other hits available that have better information. As before, TagChimp is an absolute disaster of a database, but I find it valuable in that the other metadata sources don't keep chapter titling data, while TagChimp does. That is a bit confusing and hopefully will be addressed in the future. My only other real quibble at this point would be the TagChimp support. Oddly, despite having the option enabled in the preferences, I still have to change it a second time by selecting all titles, then using the option under "Edit Tags" to get the desired DVD sorting. Many TV shows are aired out of the intended viewing order, with Firefly being the most notable example. Being the happy owner of a new Apple TV, having this info available makes browsing through my media so much easier and pleasant. The only other gripe I have other than the TagChimp manhandling is the lack of an option to tag using "DVD order" rather than "Aired order". Re-ripping those shows was an enormous nuisance. This problem aside, I've found iDentify to be splendid in adding artwork and metadata to my videos. Outlook for mac customize signatureNow the developer has given us a seemingly great tool to take us to the next level of automatic tagging. Even though it was actually just some Perl scripts wrapped around Atomic Parsley for rewriting the metadata, it just plain worked. But some of us really got lucky to find Identify. When development of MetaX slowed down, next came MetaZ - a no-holds barred clone of MetaX - but which fixed many of the long standing problems. First came MetaX, with its integration with Amazon to do lookups and eventually with TagChimp. IDentify relies on theTVDB website to get metadata for TV shows, and while theTVDB does allow for sorting by air date or by DVD order, iDentify has yet to take advantage of this option. It's easy to become spoiled lately in the world of metadata tagging on OS X. Only "negative" is that this application is not the Mac interface level one might desire, as this is apparently the developers first foray into Cocoa. Combined with the great community metadata databases at The Movie DB (The TV DB (and TagChimp (it would be surprising to not have it find the metadata automatically.
